The Good Choice
Written by: Josephine Myall My best friend Sandy and I were walking home from school. “Hey Sandy, how did you do on the math quiz?” I asked. “Not so hot. When Mary and I were comparing answers, I had a lot of different answers and she’s the smartest in our class,” Sandy replied. “That’s alright, you can do better next time,” I said, “besides, it was only out of ten points.” Sandy and I kept walking until she tripped on something and grabbed her knee in pain. I looked down to see what had tripped her and it was a pretty purple wallet. “Holy cow. Sandy, are you okay?” I asked. “Yeah I think so, but this stupid wallet tripped me,” Sandy said. “Who do you think it belongs to? ” She picked it up and looked inside. “Score!” Sandy said, “fifty dollars!” Should we just take the money and split it? The twenty-five dollars would be more than enough for arcade games. “I think we should make restitution of the wallet,” I said. “Fine, only if you promise me I get dibs on the Pacman game the next time we go to the arcade,” Sandy replied. “Deal,” I answered. I shuffled through the wallet to look for an ID. In the wallet there was coupons, money, a paperclip, and some old gum. “No luck, I think we should take it to the police station.” I said. Sandy agreed and we both headed towards the police station that was across from our school. We went to the front desk to hand in the wallet. It felt really good to be doing a good deed. The officer thanked us. Sandy and I left, but before I closed the door I looked back and to my surprise, I saw the officer put down the wallet and take the money! “Sandy we have to do something, I saw the officer put the money in his pocket,” I said. “That’s ridiculous, an officer would never do that,” she replied. “I swear I saw him!” I said. I grabbed Sandy’s hand and ran in. “Officer, stop right there! I said. “I saw you pocket the money!” I threw my fist in the air. The officer started running and he ran out the door and shut it in my face. I fell over and fainted.

Can I go out with my friends?
Do the dishes first. I already did the dishes. Then clean your room before you go. My room is already clean. Are you sure? Yes. Then practice your violin. I can do that when I get back. I know you won’t. I promise I will. Don’t raise your voice at me. I swear I didn’t. I don’t want you to go anymore. Why not? You’re getting an attitude.
